About
The Benton County Historical Society recieved an Oregon Heritage Grant to improve its collection care.
Benton County Historical Museum, Philomath
The purpose of the Oregon Heritage Grant Program is to support projects conducted by non-profit organizations, federally recognized tribal governments and local governments which conserve, develop or interpret Oregon´s heritage.
 
The next round of applications is expected to begin in the summer of 2011.

Previous grant recipients
2009
 
Friends of Sumpter Valley Dredge. Install two awareness signs, develop a trail guide map, and update its website. $7,000.
 
Benton County Historical Society. Purchase and install steel shelving in its collections care facility. $20,000.
 
Cannon Beach Historical Society. Produce an exhibit of Native American basketry made by Jennie Meschelle. $800.
 
Clatsop County Historical Society. Develop and produce a local history book and 4th grade curriculum. $20,000.
 
High Desert Museum. Develop an exhibit about community-building on the high desert from 1830-1930.  $20,000.
 
City of Jacksonville. Implement the first phase of a master landscape plan for the Peter Britt house gardens.  $13,333.
 
Siskiyou Smokejumper Base Museum. Develop and install displayers in the museum and to create traveling exhibits.  $2,300.
 
Klamath County Museums. Digitize more than 2,000 images and providing safe storage for cellulose nitrate negatives. $3,266.
 
Lake County Library District. Train adults and high school students and purchase equipemtn to capture, store, edit and transcribe oral histories in a "Preserving Our History Project." $2,610.
 
Lane County Historical Society and Museum. Digitize several thousand photographs. $6,330.
 
Lord and Schryver Conservancy.  Develop a cultural landscape report for the home garden of noted women landscape architects Elizabeth Lord and Edith Schryver. $7,500.
 
Northwest History Network. Design and develop a website about the history of women's political achievements in Oregon, beginning with the right to vote.  $9,961.
 
Oregon Council of Teachers of English. Identify and commission at least 80 entries on the history and culture of women and under-represented populations fro the Oregon Encyclopedia of History and Culture. Includes at least two entries each from 35 counties. $20,000.
 
Oregon Nikkei Legacy Center.  Create an exhibit "Taken: FBI" that tells the personal stories of individuals and families of the Japanese men and Oregon residents taken from their homes by the FBI on or shortly after the bombing of Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7, 1941. $12,788.
 
Oregon Public Broadcasting. Migrate 68 hours of deteriorating television news footage of the rise and fall of the Rajneeshes in Central Oregon from 1981-85 that will enable the project's partners to produce a one-hour Oregon Experience TV special. $20,000.
 
Eastern Oregon University Foundation. Catalog and metatag photographs and letters of photographer Fred Hill and place them on the web.  $2,666.
 
Friends of the Joseph Branch. Purchase equipment, software, hardware and material for the Maxville Heritage Project's archival collection. $2,666.
 
Wallowa Land Trust. Establish an inventory of Century Farms and Ranches in Wallowa County, produce a booklet documenting farm history and culture; and organize and implement guided public farm tours to the farms.  $10,133.
 
Columbia Gorge Discovery Center. Explores the long-term fesibility for the development of a state-wide digitization network by which larger cultural institutions make available their information infrastructure to support discovery of the state's unique historical collections. $11,447.
 
Yamhill County Historical Society. Purchase a walk-in freezer to preserve wooden artifacts and woolen clothing. $7,200.
