Frequently asked questions

Retrievers on leashes.
Don't forget the leashes!
Q. Wow! Is it true I can stay with my pet in yurts and cabins designated as pet friendly? Why the change?
A. You told us you wanted your pets to stay with you in yurts and cabins. So, we opened two rustic cabins, one deluxe cabin and one rustic yurt at LaPine, Stub Stewart and South Beach state parks for a test run. It worked for you and us! We’ve expanded the program statewide.
Q. Which parks have pet friendly yurts and cabins?
A. Starting Jan. 1, 2012,  the program expanded to 13 yurts and 20 cabins in 21 campgrounds (see list above). The pet friendly yurts and cabins in the test parks remain open.
Q. What does this service cost?
A. To help us cover the cost to provide these pet-friendly units and keep them open, please consider paying an extra $10 per night for up to two pets (cats or dogs).
Q. How do I make a reservation?
A. Reservations are available by phone only at Reservations Northwest, 1-800-452-5687. Online reservations are not available at this time.
Q. May I leave my pet alone in a pet friendly yurt or cabin?
A. Yes, in limited instances. You can leave your pet for short periods (10-15 minutes while you take a shower, go to the park office, etc.), but only if your pet remains calm, won't cause damage or bark. Remember, you are responsible for damages caused by your pet. Please take your pet with you when you explore the park.
Q. Are there other pet rules I need to know?
A. Take a look at our Pets in Parks brochure.  It explains Oregon State Park pet rules, lists park off-leash areas and includes tips on how to keep your pet safe. Pets are not allowed in any yurt, cabin or building other than the ones listed above, unless they are a service animal.
Q. How were the park campgrounds and yurts and cabins selected?
A. We expanded the program to all park campgrounds with four or more rustic yurts, rustic cabins, deluxe yurts or deluxe cabins. The more sites in the campground, the more designated as pet friendly.
